Founded in 1946, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra is one of the world’s famous orchestras and its history tracks that of the Norwegian Broadcasting Company NRK . On their first visit to Orkney, and with their principal conductor, they bring a flavour of Norway in the Hardanger folk tunes transformed into an atmospheric work by Geir Tveitt alongside the bright, fizzing neo-classicism of Prokofiev’s little symphony.  The concert culminates with one of the best loved pieces from the choral repertoire, Mozart’s Requiem, which was written in the last months of his life but left incomplete to be finished by one of his pupils.  The orchestra is joined by the St Magnus Festival Chorus and a line-up of renowned soloists.
