MENDELSSOHN Symphony No. 4, Op. 90 (Italian)
Edward Harper's classic homage to Monteverdi's Orfeo sits alongside Stravinsky's full ballet score with voices which re-imagines the music of Pergolesi in a brightly-coloured commedia dell'arte romp. Alec Frank-Gemmill, the orchestra's principal horn and BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, steps to the front with Mozart's well-known concerto and the evening is completed with Mendelssohn's virtuosic and energetic representation of Italy. The orchestra is conducted by the rising star, Spanish conductor Antonio Méndez.
