, Start Time: 19:30 Pickaquoy Centre Arena The Pickaquoy Centre, Muddisdale Road, Kirkwall KW15 1LR

The first of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra's concerts presents vivid and exciting re-imaginings and re-inventions with a prevailing Italian theme.

ANTONIO MÉNDEZ Conductor
CATHERINE BACKHOUSE Mezzo-Soprano
THOMAS WALKER Tenor
ANDREW FOSTER-WILLIAMS Bass-Baritone
ALEC FRANK-GEMMILL French Horn

EDWARD HARPER Intrada after Monteverdi
STRAVINSKY Pulcinella
MOZART Horn Concerto No. 3, K. 447
MENDELSSOHN Symphony No. 4, Op. 90 (Italian)

Edward Harper's classic homage to Monteverdi's Orfeo sits alongside Stravinsky's full ballet score with voices which re-imagines the music of Pergolesi in a brightly-coloured commedia dell'arte romp. Alec Frank-Gemmill, the orchestra's principal horn and BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, steps to the front with Mozart's well-known concerto and the evening is completed with Mendelssohn's virtuosic and energetic representation of Italy. The orchestra is conducted by the rising star, Spanish conductor Antonio Méndez.
