20 Sväng

, Start Time: 17:00 Fusion Nightclub 10-12 Ayre Road, Kirkwall KW15 1QX

Harmonica ensemble may not be something you encounter every day but the Finnish ensemble Sväng, founded in 2003, has proved how virtuosic, versatile and vibrant this seemingly insignificant instrument can be.

EERO TURKKA Chromatic and diatonic harmonicas
EERO GRUNDSTRÖM Chromatic and diatonic harmonicas
PASI LEINO Bass harmonica
JOUKO KYHÄLÄ Harmonetta, chromatic and diatonic harmonicas

These wonderfully entertaining and virtuosic instrumentalists play all sizes of harmonica from the everyday mouth organ to the "tome-sized" bass instrument all processed through electronic means to create the astonishing orchestral sound. With a dynamic, energetic stage presence and a repertoire of original music composed by the group themselves, Sväng dazzles and delights listeners the world over. Slavic melancholy is bolstered by a compulsive rhythmic groove with Balkan gypsy music, Scandinavian music, passionate tango and wild improvisations. With a fine line in humour too, this group is highly entertaining for all ages.
