Joseph Shiner   Clarinet
Ashley Fripp  Piano

Joseph Shiner and Ashley Fripp present a mix of music from Germany and France contrasting music for clarinet and piano with solo piano works written in the same period. Schumann's works originally titled "night pieces" are intimate and delicate which reflects the similar mood of Brahms' first three intermezzi. Debussy's Première rhapsodie is a tour de force written as an exam work at the Paris Conservatoire and exploiting all the timbral possibilities of the clarinet. Poulenc's sonata, written in 1962, was dedicated to his friend Honegger and is probably the most popular work for clarinet from recent times.

Schumann   Drei Fantasiestücke, Op. 73
Brahms   Vier Klavierstücke, Op. 119
Debussy   Première rhapsodie, L. 116
Debussy   Images, Première Série, L. 110
Poulenc    Clarinet Sonata, FP 184
