MENDELSSOHN Octet

Both quartets present works from their home countries of Lithuania and Norway to start the concert with the extraordinary re-imagining of themes from Mendelssohn in the work of Norwegian composer Thommessen. Completing this thrilling concert is the towering achievement by the sixteen-year-old Mendelssohn. A work of brilliance and mature imagination, it is hard to believe that the composer was so young and that a year later he would write the Overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream.
