Over the years, St Magnus International Festival has brought a huge range of highly-acclaimed, world-renowned pianists to Orkney.
Although other musicians are lucky enough to travel with their instruments, pianists have to rely on what they find when they arrive in a concert venue. The Festival has never owned a piano and has relied on the generosity and willingness of Orkney Arts Society in lending its pianos. We have now decided to buy a new Steinway Concert Grand Model D to provide 'the best' for our visiting performers.
The cost of a brand new Steinway piano is considerable so we are looking to the generosity of all those from Orkney and beyond who support the work of the Festival, and have enjoyed many virtuoso piano performances in the past, to help us raise the amount needed.
Although the St Magnus International Festival does not promote concerts all year round, we would see this piano as being a resource for Orkney, allowing a fine piano to be available for other concerts and recitals.
There are a number of ways you can help us reach our £80,000 target, from single donations to our KEYS TO THE PIANO initiative, to on-going sponsorship. Of course, we will be grateful for donations of whatever size. If you would rather make a written pledge to donate at a future date, or to donate in installments over a number of years, we will be delighted to hear from you.
For major sponsors (of £10,000 or more) the most exciting reward is the chance to fly to Hamburg where you will meet Joanna MacGregor. Together you will tour the historic Steinway factory and help us select our very own piano in person. We can only offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to 4 people, so please contact us to find out more. |
