Orkney Conducting Course is a ten-day course for emerging conductors overlapping with the St Magnus Festival.
The course provides a stimulating and supportive environment in which conductors can share in an intensive period of study. Most importantly, as part of the St Magnus Festival, OCC enables participants to work with outstanding orchestras, ensembles, conductors and soloists.
This event gives Festival audiences the opportunity to watch these conductors in rehearsal with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Hebrides Ensemble. OCC passes, allowing entry to all day-time sessions throughout the course, are available for purchase with your ticket order. Alternatively, single session tickets are available at the door at the start of the morning and afternoon sessions.
The repertoire to be worked on with the SCO includes:
Haydn
Symphony no 88
Beethoven
Schumann R. Strauss
Delius
Symphony no 8
Overture, Scherzo, Finale
Overture and Dance scene from Ariadne
On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring
Summer Night on the River
With the Hebrides Ensemble the conductors will be working on Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire , along with the eight new pieces created over the ten days of the St Magnus Composers' Course, which will be premiered in concert at Event 29.
