Two linked concerts by distinguished Polish artists
conclude our celebration of the music of Chopin.
This morning we hear his
passionate sonata for
cello and piano, while
our lunchtime recital

The Firebird Suite |
At the heart of this glittering programme is Nicola Benedetti's performance of Szymanowski's rhapsodic concerto, a work Nicola has made very much her own . St Francis of Assisi was commissioned by the BBC for the ‘Max at 75' celebrations in Glasgow in 2009. The SSO rounds off its Orkney residency and brings the 2010 Festival to a close with Stravinsky's thrilling and gorgeously orchestrated showpiece.
'Benedetti was absolutely on top of the winding, ornamental curve of the long violin melodies. Her mix of tenderness and intensity was alluring.' approximately 2 hours 10 minutes
