Eddie McGuire and Alasdair Nicolson both have a strong interest in the traditional music of their own country which is also represented here by Scotland’s great Bard, Robert Burns and some of his most famous song lyrics. The collection of songs collected by Colonel Balfour, Laird of the estate in the mid-19th century, date back to music passed on orally by the fireside, and link directly to the island of Shapinsay and Balfour Castle. The fascinating combination of tenor, guitar and harp stems from Jamie MacDougall's connections to Mexico and an idea with the renowned harpist Ángel Padilla Crespo to create repertoire for this invented ensemble. The soundworld of two string instruments with voice is a magical combination and the trio is now in demand throughout the world. Balfour Castle's award-winning chef, Jean-Baptiste Bady and his team will provide afternoon tea after the concert.
