Ashley Fripp  Piano

One of the younger generation of virtuoso British pianists, Ashley Fripp performs a dance inspired programme with delicate Mazurkas from Chopin contrasting with the same composer’s extravagantly virtuosic Grande Polonaise, exploiting the full range of the piano.   Thomas Adès’s Concert Paraphrase is an equal match to the Chopin in its technical demands and virtuosity and takes dance music from his chamber opera based on the notorious and scandalous tale of the Duchess of Argyll in the 1960s.  The recital begins with the clean, refreshing dance movements of Bach’s English Suite.

J. S. Bach   English Suite No. 2 in A minor, BWV 807
Thomas Adès   Concert Paraphrase on Powder Her Face
Chopin   4 Mazurkas, Op. 24
Chopin    Andante Spianato et grande polonaise brillante, Op. 22
