5 Fiachra Garvey

, Start Time: 13:00, End Time: 14:00 St Magnus Cathedral Broad Street, Kirkwall KW15 1NX

Fiachra Garvey serves up a richly varied and vibrant programme ranging across a century from the 1840s to the 1950s. Debussy’s elusive sonorities and delicate sound pictures filled with bells and orientalism flows gently into Chopin’s gondolier’s song. The same composer’s more vigorous Polonaise unleashes a more virtuosic pianistic world.

Lachenmann’s energetic and percussive deconstruction of Schubert’s theme leads us to the mighty Barber Sonata originally performed by Horowitz and a staple of 20th century piano repertoire.
