17 ANTHEMS FOR DOOMED YOUTH: WAR AND PEACE

, Start Time: 11:00, End Time: 12:30 Stromness Town Hall Church Road, Stromness KW16 3BA

Joseph Middleton makes a welcome return to the Festival creating a programme that surveys music and text on the subject of war and peace by composers and poets from across Europe and the USA in a powerful and emotional recital. From the simplicity of Debussy’s Christmas song despairing at the occupation of France to the galloping aggression of Barber’s ‘I hear an Army’ the programme shines a light on many reflections on conflict and resolution. For this concert Joseph Middleton is joined by two of the younger generation of great British singers who are very at home in the intimate world of recital.
