The proposed start date for the Festival Chorus rehearsals had been 21st February 2022 but this has been postponed because our Chorus Director has contracted Covid.  The new start date will be 7th March.  Rehearsals will take place in King Street Halls at 7.15 p.m. on Monday evenings.

Brahms Requiem  Op. 45

This year's repertoire picks up where we left off in 2020 when rehearsals were in their early stages when Covid and lockdowns struck.   It's been two years now without an opportunity for the Festival Chorus to appear on stage and it's good to be planning for a return in 2022.   Brahms Requiem is one of the favourite works for large chorus and was written between 1865 and 1868.  Its full title is A German Requiem and it is a non-liturgical piece which uses the German language as opposed to the Latin conventions of the requiem mass.  Brahms added only two soloists into this work, a soprano and baritone.

JOIN IN

If you would like to join again, or for the first time, the Festival Chorus is unauditioned and you can simply turn up at the rehearsal venue.  Commitment towards the date in the Festival is key and a regular attendance in the rehearsals weeks from March through to June.    The vocal scores for this work can be bought personally or can be bought from the Festival.   We will be using the Edition Peters score.

If you have any queries please get in touch with the Festival Office.
