Posted on

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit will visit the Orkney Islands on 16-17 June at the start of the annual St Magnus International Festival.

This year marks the 900th anniversary of St Magnus’s death. The Crown Prince and the Crown Princess will take part in a celebration of the longstanding historical ties between Norway and Orkney.

Among the events on their programme are the opening night performance of I, Pilgrim on June 16, a visit to the prehistoric settlement at Skara Brae, and a flower ceremony for Norwegian sailors and Second World War soldiers who are buried on Orkney.

The full programme of events that are open to the public will be announced closer to the time.

There is no other event, certainly in Scotland, that blurs the boundaries between community arts and the professional world as relentlessly as Orkney's St Magnus Festival.
