Volunteers wanted to meet and transport Festival Artists and provide accommodation
We are looking for volunteers to meet and transport Festival artists arriving for the 2015 Festival and to provide host accommodation.
Volunteers meet artists at the airport and ferry terminals and welcome them to Orkney before either directing them to pre-booked transport or driving the artists to their accommodation or performance venue.
The Festival is looking for friendly and welcoming folk who are experienced and competent drivers with access to own vehicles and willing to help between Saturday 13 June and Wednesday 24 June. Mileage is paid for all transfers.
St Magnus International Festival is also extending its list of volunteer hosts for Festival performers this year. Due to the high number of artists performing at this year’s Festival, over 150 of them travelling from outside Orkney, demand for host accommodation is at an all-time high.
Volunteer hosts are usually based in Kirkwall and offer free accommodation in their spare rooms to Festival performers on a bed and breakfast basis for anything between 1 and 4 nights.
Festival Administrator, Amy Allan said “Providing meet and greet services or host accommodation to Festival artists is a great way to get involved with the St Magnus International Festival. Many of our volunteers have formed long-term friendships with visiting artists, including some of this year’s Scottish Chamber Orchestra players, who come back to stay with them for the Festival whenever they can.
“Meeters & Greeters and Accommodation Hosts receive a free Festival Club pass for the nights they host as well an invitation to the Festival’s opening reception. We’d really like to hear from anyone who is interested in volunteering to meet and greet or provide host accommodation. For further information please contact the Festival office at 60 Victoria Street, Kirkwall, 01856.871445 or email the Festival Office here.
